First episode                             Cassandre

Chasaters :

Alcmeon

Cassandre

Ecare

There is an edifice which has remained from the time of prechristian Greek astronomers. The wonderful architecture of this place makes it easy for people to find the planets and watch them. The remains of the building still exists.

The scene is a corner of this building which is supposed to be Alcmeon's house. Who knows?

Perhaps those day: somebody named Alcmeon actually lived there. There is a table on the right side of the stage,on which there is a hollow cube.

There is an oval-shaped solid object which is rotating in the center of the cube, and it is not attached to anything. Some light rays are visible around this object. There is something like a small telescope next to the table.

A part of the sky and the stars is visible through the roof. Alcmeon is standing beside the table and writing something. Ecare, his servant, enters limping. He has a glass and a pitcher full of a drink, and he is looking for some place to put them at. Finally, he puts them on the smaller table which is on the left side of the stage.

Ecare : Can I go ?

Alcmeon : Yes. (Ecare is leaving.) Ecare?

Ecare : Y… yes Alcmeon?

Alcmeon : What are you doing?

Ecare : P… pardon?

Alcmeon : It seems you are up to something.

Ecare : Up to s… something? No, I'm n…n…not up to anything.

Alcmeon : You haven't touched anything, have you?

Ecare : No, no, no.

Alcmeon : You are telling the truth, aren't you?

Ecare : Y…y…yes. (silence)

Alcmeon : Right. (He is busy)

Ecare : Alcmeon, she d…d… doesn't eat her f…

Alcmeon: By the way how is she?

Ecare : Sh… she has had f… five babies.

Alcmeon : Fine (long), fine. (He is busy.) Fine.

Ecare : (happily) Th… they are fine. They are fine.

Alcmeon : (He turns around.) Ecare, Look out. It's not like the past anymore, especially today.

You shouldn't touch anything. Did you get it?

You shouldn't touch anything.

Ecare : (frightened) Yes…yes (He is going.) Wh…what are you going…to do?

Alcmeon : Ecare …

Ecare : Yes.

Alcmeon : Did you give my message to her?

Ecare : Y…y…yes.

Alcmeon: What did she say?

Ecare : (He freshens up his breath.) Yes.

Alcmeon : You think she is coming?

Ecare : (happily) A…a…as…soon as she r…read the m…message, she l…left. Sh…she will be here soon.

Alcmeon : (He is busy with his work.) Fine…fine.

Ecare : Yes…she is fine…very fine…Her babies are finer…I…today…I took forty beetles for them.

Alcmeon : Stop talking nonesense. (He is working.)

Ecare : I…I… am bringing them up.

Alcmeon : Ecare?

Ecare : Y…

Alcmeon : Have you put all of the mirrors on the right spots?

Ecare : All of the…

Alcmeon : The same spot which I had said?

Ecare : Th… the same…

Alcmeon : I must have a look.

Ecare : (decisively) The same spot.

Alcmeon : Fine…fine.

Ecare : Yes… they are fine. Her babies are better.

Alcmeon, I drew lines around their house. But they won't eat the beetles. I cut off the head of 39 beetles, but they still w…won't…

Alcmeon : Ecare, you are talking nonesense again… go… let me do my job.

(Ecare goes out and runs into Cassandre.)

Ecare : H…H…hello.

Cassandre : Hello.

Alcmeon : (He turns back. He looks happy.) Oh, welcome.

Cassandre: Well?

Alcmeon : Hi.

Cassandre : What does this message mean? (Ecare leaves.)

Alcmeon : I wanted you to be here.

Cassandre : What do you want from me?

Alcmeon : Nothing.

Cassandre : What do you mean?(pause) Has something happened?

Alcmeon : No, nothing.

Cassandre : Then … (She approaches him.) What has happened? Why are you looking at me like this? (She covers the burning scar on her face.)

Alcmeon : You are still beautiful.

Cassandre : (She goes backward.) A long time has passed since those days. Say what you want from me. Should I predict the future again or should I find something which has been lost?(pause) Is there something in your research which hasn't been finished yet?(pause) We are even now. You saved my life and I did whatever you asked me to do.

Alcmeon : There 's no doubt that you have helped me a lot Cassandre. I 'm not going to disturb you anymore. I know how hard it has been for you, especially after that accident.

Cassandre : I don't want tohear anything about it. Even the memory is horrible.(pause) Just tell me, has something happened Alcmeon?

Alcmeon : No.(pause) You know, I have always admired you.

Cassandre : Are you saying this to make me happy? Because everybody has cast me out?

Alcmeon : You are ahead of the people of your time. You have passed the long way which has to be passed in centuries.

Cassandre : I didn't do anything special. I just… as you said… I'm just wonderfully gifted. And that's what interests you and that's what helped you to achieve your discoveries.(pause) The only thing about me which you cared about.(pause) It's actually you who has passed the long way. Now you are the most prominent and clever astronomer on the earth.(pause) You have passed a long way.

Alcmeon : You are being sarcastic Cassandre.(pause) I understand. You might be right.(pause) But I'm happy.(pause) You know why? Because I have finished it at last.

Cassandre : So you have invited me to the celebration of your triumphs and honors?(pause) How can you enjoy celebrating your successes in front of a cast out cursed loser? And after all these years which I know meant nothing to you.

Alcmeon : You are not a loser Cassandre. (He goes towards her.) From this moment, no idiot can annoy you. You mean a lot to me Cassandre. I have been working all these years to get my research somewhere. You know it well. We started together and we'll finish it together.

(He takes a look at Cassandre.) …It's finished. It's finished Cassandre.

Cassandre : You mean…

Alcmeon : We can have a new society. It's like a huge earthquake which devours everything or a flood or a hurricane which sweeps everything away.

Cassandre : What are you talking about?

Alcmeon : I'm talking about the human generation without ignorance.

Cassandre : I don't understand.

Alcmeon : Listen Cassandre. You can predict the future.

Perhaps even you yourself don't know how you do it or which energy you use. But I have discovered the primary source of this energy. And I have reached Condahrtahm.

Cassandre : Condahrtahm? What's that?

Alcmeon : Come here. I'll explain about it to you. Look at this planet. What does it look like? It's a man who has put his hands on his shoulders.(pause) It's silverish blue. Come here, Look at Mercury. It's an old man with a long beard. There is a pen in his hand and a big book on his laps… It's aquamarine.(pause) It appears on Wednesdays.

Cassandre : It looks like you. And just like you, he is busy reading a book… which day is…

Alcmeon : …Here is venus. It's a woman who is playing music you see.(pause) I can even hear her music. (He looks at Cassandre.) It's white.(pause) It appears on Fridays and Wednesdays and it has the strongest vibration. The sun, an average-height man, holding two golden lion profiles, is standing across from you. You sometimes get your power from him. Come here and watch from this column. This is Mars. In one hand he has a dagger and in his other hand a cut-off head which is fire red.(pause) He is restless to kill… It appears on Sundays and Wednesday.

Cassandre : Why is he nestless to kill?

Alcmeon : Because he is angry.

Cassandre : for what?

Alcmeon : for people's ignorance.

Cassandre : And what's that one?

Alcmeon : That's saturn.

Cassandre : It looks like a strog attractive man holding a bunch of grapes.

Alcmeon : You are clever Cassandre… clever.

Cassandre : I wish I were eating grapes. (Alcmeon pours her a glass of juice and Cassandre goes towards him.) I wish we were up there.

Alcmeon : They're up there for us my dear Cassandre.

Because they all influence us in different ways.

Cassandre : Like the moon which influences the sea?

Alcmeon : When a planet is dominant at its own time, it provides its own magic influences and qualities. There are some elements which fortify these influences and qualities. But this only happens if the right time is determined and somebody guides them.

Cassandre : And you have determined the right times? (He goes towards her, happy for her intelligence.)

Alcmeon : I call them "time divisions". I have divided the day into parts. Look at this chart. Mars is dominant in the first time division of Saturday and the seventh time division of Monday and the third time division of Wednesday. Mercury is dominant in the second time division of Sunday and the twelfth time division of Friday.

Cassandre : And if we find a time division in which most of the planets are dominant?

Alcmeon : (happily) Or the ones which we want, with their own influences…

Cassandre : They will have stronger…

Alcmeon : … much stronger and guided energy. But their circulation and their circular movemet made it hard for me to coordinate the time divisions, and this took me a long time.

It took me a lifetime; a lifetime which could have been yours. (pause) But now, I've got the outcome of it. That's why I want you to be with me.

Cassandre: (she is drinking.) Alcmeon, when is the time for the planet which plays music and the strong saturn with his wine glass? (she laughs.) You… can you make them dominant?

Alcmeon : I have just determined the time divisions and identified their power. (He looks at Cassandre.) But darling, now Mars is more important than saturn. The red Mars.

Cassandre : I don't like him.

Alcmeon : Liking or not liking isn't important.

Cassandre : (sadly) Oh… yeah. Love has never been important to you. (she is crying.) Yes, it's not important Alcmeon. It's not important. Then… then tell me what is important.

Alcmeon : Finding the best way to change things! This is the most important duty which we have these days. We can get rid of all stupid ignorant crippled people and the threat of all disasters which these people bring about. We can determin the world's future with clever people, with wise and healthy people.

Cassandre : This is just a ridiculous theory.

Alcmeon : It's not ridiculous Cassandre. I have been working on it for years.

Cassandre : What do you mean?

Alcmeon : The wise people will stay on and the rest will diminish.

Cassandre : It's impossible.

Alcmeon : There is no back and forth, or beginning and ending to time circles. They circles. They are interconnected. This is Condahrtahm.(pause) And you helped me to find it.

Cassandre : Me?

Alcmeon : I mached the power of planets and galaxies with this big sign which you gave me.

Cassandre : I didn't do anyghing. I just said what I saw.

Alcmeon : That's it. Many years ago, when you used to come here to predict, or to find things which had been lost in the past or had happened in the past, what did you do? What did you see? Do you remember? You were sitting here and at the same moment you saw somebody who was stealing something. What does this mean? It mean: the past was brought into the present. When you predicted the future, the future entered the present. You see? I mean the present is a door to the past and the future; the present in which we are living now.

Cassandre : Anyway they are all similar; the present, the past, and the future.

Alcmeon : No, my Cassandre. The most important principle is that only the present can be effective. Just the present. Neither the past nor the future has such a power. Can you imagine that?

Cassandre : It's hard to understand.(pause) I didn't know what to do. I still don't. But I know that I overstepped some boudries. I said things which perhaps should have never been said. I revealed some secrets, thefts or murders which were really painful. I talked about the future and I revealed intentions which were frightening.(pause) Just because I thought I was helping people.

Alcmeon : And you helped.(pause) You helped me.

Cassandre : The power which caused me to do those things, was you Alcmeon. I wanted you to pay attention to me. I wanted you to love me. I wanted you to see me.(pause) I didn't care about my congenital talent. It was doing its job. A lot of years have passed and you have achieved what you wanted. Now tell me what you are going to do? (pause) You are not going to destroy everything, are you?

Alcmeon : Without a bloodshed, there will be no salvation. In the human history, ignorant nations have been completely destroyed numerous times. All of them. You thing why?

Cassandre : Yes, they were destroyed, but by a human, not by somebody who is talking about understanding and love. (she looks at him.) Destroying people is cruelty.

Alcmeon : I'm not cruel Cassandre. The people who tear eachother up are cruel. Have you ever thought why people fight eachother or why they betray one another? Why they warm their cottages with eachother's blood? Why they barbecue animals while they are alive? Because they want to taste a better kind of meat. You know Cassandre, people are cruel, because they don't understand.

Cassandre : You mean that's all because of ignorance? (Alcmeon confirms.) How can you prove it?

Alcmeon : Look at the people around you. Look what they have done to you. Why have you prisoned yourself? Why are you afraid of them? Why did they want to fire you?

Cassandre : Please…

Alcmeon : You are afraid of them. This is the truth. But in fact, it was they who were afraid of you and your intelligence. They are afraid of any unknown power; because they don't understand it. Stupid people are not flexible. They only know one principle. Do you know why you have been left alone? Why you can't live in peace? Because there is a big number of these stupid people, Cassandre. And that's why they always win. In their idea, the majority is right. This is why you were left alone and humiliated.

Cassandre : It was you who saved me.(pause) You’re right Alcmeon. I was humiliated. I was cast out. They treated me like a scary witch. I was burning. I almost experienced death while living.(pause) They are afraid of me. They hate me. You’re right Alcmeon. But still, I can’t accept what you say. How can everything and everybody be summarized in one person? No, I can’t.

Alcmeon : Everything originates from human understanding, common sense and wisdom Cassandre. Love originates from wisdom, self-sacrifice from understanding, and faith from knowledge. Cruelty, grudge, disloyalty, and jealousy, all originate from ignorance and silliness.

Cassandre : But these people might exist for a reason.

Alcmeon : This generation is reproducing the following generations and this is dangerous. This cycle will on on for centuries.

Cassandre : We can’t interfere.

Alcmeon : That’s where you are wrong. We should help the unique nature of earth to manifest. But with these people, the stupidity circle will go on repeatedly and the travel of the planet towards its true nature will be postponed for centuries. So the best thing to do is destroying them.

Cassandre : There must be another way.

Alcmeon : (nervous) Another way …

Cassandre : Yes…  (Ecare enters. He is anxious and he interrups Alcmeon.)

Ecare : A…Alc… meon l…look… wh…what…

Alcmeon : (He looks away from Ecare to Cassandre. He is nervous.) Do you know why he stammers? No, you don’t.Do you know why he limps? No, you don’t… (to Ecare) Tell her yourself. Say why …Go on. Tell her…

(Ecare is trying to talk … But he is worried about something else and he is continually looking outside and at the bag he is holding.)

Ecare : L…look… w…what…

Alcmeon : Say who did it to you.

Ecare : M…my…f…father.

Alcmeon : His father. His father punished him just to teach him a lesson. He tied him to a metal bar, all night out there where everything had frozen. Why? Because in his stupid father’s idea, this was the best way to train him. Can you imagine what kind of fate these people bring about for our world? No, you don’t want to know, as you try to ignore the scar which is on your face, by covering it.

Cassandre : I don’t ignore it, but…

Alcmeon : You won’t believe what a dreadful influence these people have. You should just trace an incident, a stupid action commited by these people. What do you think their children will do? And since they are stupid, they always have more than five children. You see Cassandre, it’s the population of this group that grows. And each of these five will have five children as well.(pause) Now, trace an incident with this population… see how they delay the progress. You can’t, no…as you can’t understand the influence of planets and galaxies on the earth and its people.(pause) You don’t want to believe it. This is not cruelty. The cruelty which these people will bring about in the history is real cruelty.(pause) My dear Cassandre, it’s Wednesday today. Anybody who is on his planet, will survive; and the rest, without bearing a red sign, will die. Everything has been prepared for today. I have been waiting for years, and today is the day.

Cassandre : Alcmeon, intelligence is not the only thing we need. God created man with his tears. So we need feelings too; we need love.

Alcmeon : Intelligence itself will create the right feeling and the right love. Lack of wisdom creates the wrong love and stupid feelings.(pause) Please believe me Cassandre.

Cassandre : I have always believed you… but…

Alcmeon : We should deroot the weeds to make room for flowers. So stay with me.(pause) Just believe me. …Mars has pointed his dagger now. It’s completely red now.(pause) (Ecare who has been goingfback and forth up to this moment and has tried to talk many times, but hasn’t succeeded, takes advantage of the silence and starts to talk suddenly.)

Ecare : H…her ch…children are… f…fine.(He takes an animal out of the bag.)

(Alcmeon notices him and looks at the animal with a surprised expression.)

Alcmeon : What’s this? What have you done? Is it their mother?

Ecare : A…Alcmeon… she kept …g…going out.

Alcmeon : what have you done to it?

Ecare : she… k…kept g…going… I…h…hit her.

Alcmeon : I asked what has happened to it?

Ecare : I… t…tied her to the b…bar…to…keep her…in. I h…hit her. She…w…wasn’t eating.

Cassandre : The poor creature!

Ecare : No…no…I j…just wanted to…l…look…after her. I wanted to…k…keep her in…Her children are hungry.

Alcmeon : (He is angry and sad.) Ecare…Ecaer…

Ecare : I…I…loved her…I loved…

Alcmeon : Ecare, is this punishment? Or love?

(He looks at Cassandre.)

(The light fades out.)
